A man has been arrested and charged with armed robbery after a Dollar General store was reportedly held up at gunpoint Tuesday morning.
The incident took place around 8:15 a.m. at the store located at 9149 Lima Road, according to a news release from the Fort Wayne Police Department. Officers responded to a reported robbery and were told that a lone gunman had robbed the store.
The man, identified Tuesday afternoon as 21-year-old Alexander A. White, was dressed in black with a white bandana covering his face, the release said. He was armed and demanded cash from an employee, then left southbound on foot.
A K-9 tracked the scent to the rear of a vacant home in the 9000 block of Village Drive, according to the release, and fresh footprints led to a rear door that was unlocked.
Officers set up a perimeter and called in the Emergency Services Team; White emerged from the home at 9:40 a.m. and was taken into custody. The home was searched and no one else was found inside, according to the release.
The release said items thought to be associated with the robbery were found in the home and taken as evidence; the case remains under investigation.
