Wideout from Speedway HS could see playing time as a freshman

Tuesday, January 14, 2014 - 12:50 am

The News-Sentinel sports staff will feature a different verbally committed player for the four NCAA Division I football programs (Ball State, Indiana Notre Dame and Purdue) in Indiana leading up to National Signing Day on Feb. 5.

Here is today's Notre Dame featured commit:

JUSTIN BRENT

Position: Wide receiver

High School: Speedway High School in Indianapolis, Indiana

Height: 6-foot-1

Weight: 196 pounds

Commitment date: July 9, 2012

Other scholarship offers: Louisville

Ranking: Rated a four-star prospect by Rivals.com, the No. 1 player in the state of Indiana, the No. 11 wide receiver in the country and the No. 82 overall prospect in the Rivals100; rated a four-star prospect by Scout.com and the No. 9 wide receiver in the country.

Notre Dame depth chart at position: Senior DaVaris Daniels, junior C.J. Prosise, junior Chris Brown, sophomore Will Fuller, sophomore Corey Robinson, sophomore Torii Hunter Jr.

Scouting report: The combination of the loss of leading-receiver T.J. Jones to graduation as well as Daniels' dismissal from the University for the spring semester gives Brent the opportunity as an early-enrollee to make a splash as a freshman for the Fighting Irish. There are plenty of talented bodies at the receiver position, but it will be an open competition for order in the depth chart. Already a specimen physically, if Brent can add 10-15 pounds of muscle once he gets on campus, he could further his cause to see action in 2014.
