Early-enrollee quarterback will work with Hoosiers in spring

Tuesday, January 14, 2014 12:01 am
The News-Sentinel sports staff will feature a different verbally committed player for the four NCAA Division I football programs (Ball State, Indiana Notre Dame and Purdue) in Indiana leading up to National Signing Day on Feb. 5.Here is today's Indiana featured commit:Position:Quarterback

High School: Venice High School in Los Angeles

Height: 6-foot-1

Weight: 175 pounds

Commitment date: June 12, 2013

Other scholarship offer: None

Ranking: Rated a three-star prospect by Rivals.com; rated a two-star prospect by Scout.com and the No. 87 quarterback in the country.

Indiana depth chart at position: Junior Nate Sudfeld, redshirt junior Tre Roberson, senior Cameron Coffman.

Scouting report: The Hoosiers will return all 3,680 yards passing and 36 touchdowns next season with Sudfeld, Roberson and Coffman. That bodes well for Diamont's long-term development as he will in all likelihood redshirt in 2014. It will be a year worth preserving with the experience in front of him on the depth chart combined with the fact that Diamont will have to adjust to the college game, including putting on added muscle. Diamont has an impressive arm for his size and can get out of the pocket but is not a pure dual-threat quarterback. With both Sudfeld and Roberson still having two years of eligibility remaining, it could be awhile until we see Diamont get significant playing time for the Hoosiers.
