Fort Wayne Community Schools will purchase a lot that formerly held a car wash owned by the Kelley automotive group, with an eye toward creating more parking and lawn space.
Melanie Hall of FWCS said Wednesday morning that the school board authorized the purchase during Tuesday's meeting. The board authorized a purchase price of $328,500, Hall said, and that one of the goals of the conversion of the lot is to make adjoining North Side High School more visible.
No timetable has been established as to when that conversion will take place; the work would likely have to be made available for bid.
Also on Tuesday, board president Mark GiaQuinta was selected to retain that position for the next year. Julie Hollingsworth and Steve Corona will swap roles from the previous year; Hollingsworth will be the vice president and Corona will be the secretary. In 2013, those roles were reversed.
