The News-Sentinel sports staff will feature a different verbally committed player for the four NCAA Division I football programs (Ball State, Indiana Notre Dame and Purdue) in Indiana leading up to National Signing Day on Feb. 5.
Here is today's Indiana featured commit:
Position: Tight end
High School: Milford Academy in New Berlin, New York
Weight: 230 pounds
Commitment date: December 15, 2013
Other scholarship offers: UConn, Rutgers and Temple.
Ranking: Rated a three-star prospect by Rivals.com; rated a two-star prospect by Scout.com.
Indiana depth chart at position: Sophomore Danny Friend, junior Anthony Corsaro, redshirt junior Michael Cooper.
Scouting report: Indiana will return just one catch for zero yards at its tight end position next season with the departure of Ted Bolser, who notched 35 receptions for 320 yards and six scores for the Hoosiers in 2013. Fuchs definitely has the college-ready frame to be a pass catcher in Indiana's offense as a freshmen, but there are plenty of bodies to vault over to get to that spot. Friend appears to be the starter at this juncture for next year, with Anthony Corsaro also expected to contribute. Fans should not forget about Cooper, who had to sit out a year after transferring from Arizona. Fuchs is a solid get for Coach Kevin Wilson at the tight end position, a player who should grow into a serviceable player at the position in time. But look for Fuchs to contribute mostly on special teams in 2014.
