Homicide ruled in Allen County shooting death

Sunday, January 19, 2014 - 3:50 pm

The Allen County coroner's office has ruled as a homicide the death of a man in a shooting outside a bar.

At around 3:49 a.m. Sunday, Allen County Sheriff's Department officers responded to a shooting at Dupont Bar & Grill, 10336 N. Clinton St., according to department spokesman Officer Adam Griffith. Officers found a man outside the bar on the front sidewalk who was suffering from gunshot wounds, according to Griffith.

The man was pronounced dead by medics. He was identified by the coroner's office as Damian J. Miller II, 32, of Fort Wayne.

After speaking with witnesses investigators determined that an altercation started inside bar between Miller and another man. The altercation continued outside the bar and the other man shot Miller, according to Griffith.

Detectives are continuing to interview witnesses to determine exactly what led up to the altercation and shooting, he said early Sunday.

The killing remains under investigation by the sheriff's department and the coroner's office. It is the first homicide of 2014 in Allen County.
