The IPFW women's basketball team erased a 15-point second half deficit, but it wasn't enough as the Mastodons fell to IUPUI 70-68.
Four players scored in double-figured for the 'Dons, led by Haley Seibert with 14 points and four rebounds. Amanda Hyde added in 13 points and a game-high five assists and three steals. Ariana Simmons came off the bench to score 12 while Mur Hagerman dropped in 10 points.
The Mastodons (10-9, 3-2 Summit League) opened the scoring with a pair of baskets before IUPUI answered with five straight points to take their first lead. The Jaguars continued their run as IPFW was held scoreless over a five-minute stretch as IUPUI built to a seven point lead with 13:11 to play in the half.
The Mastodons entered the game leading the Summit League in three-point field goal percentage, but the 'Dons started the game 0-for-8 from long range before Hagerman sank the first three-pointer for IPFW with 3:49 left in the half.
Seibert connected on a layup with 47 seconds the play, cutting the IUPUI lead to 38-33 at the break.
In the second half, IUPUI built to their biggest lead of the game at 48-35 with 14:49 to go in the game.
The Mastodon offense began to catch fire, out-scoring the Jaguars 19-2 as they took the lead 58-54 on back-to-back three-pointers by Seibert and Rachel Rinehart with 6:26 to play.
IUPUI would regain a one point lead converting on the and-one chance with 3:29 to go. Simmons connected on a three-pointer and Seibert followed with a pair of free throws to give the 'Dons a three-point advantage with 2:35 left.
The Jaguars tied the score at 66-66 on a pair of jumpers, but Hyde stepped up for the 'Dons nailing a jumper from the left wing with 36 seconds left, giving IPFW the lead.
After a free throw by IUPUI, the Jaguars stole the inbounds pass, and scored a layup to take a one point lead. Another IPFW turnover led to an IUPUI free throw with four seconds left.
The 'Dons would have one final chance to tie the game, but Seibert's shot hit off the front of the rim, securing the Jaguar victory.
IPFW will head to Omaha on January 30 for the first game of a road weekend, with tipoff set for 8 p.m.
