Mister represents a big get at the RB position

Thursday, January 30, 2014 - 12:47 am

The News-Sentinel sports staff will feature a different verbally committed player for the four NCAA Division I football programs (Ball State, Indiana, Notre Dame and Purdue) in Indiana leading up to National Signing Day on Feb. 5.

Here is today's Indiana's featured commit:

TOMMY MISTER

Position: Running back

High School: St. Rita High School in Chicago, Illinois

Height: 6-foot-0

Weight: 198 pounds

Commitment date: January 18, 2014

Other scholarship offers: Nine, including Illinois, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Syracuse and Wisconsin.

Ranking: Rated a three-star prospect by Rivals.com, the No. 23 player in the state of Illinois and the No. 44 running back in the country; rated a three-star prospect by Scout.com and the No. 75 running back in the country.

Indiana depth chart at position: Junior Tevin Coleman, senior D'Angelo Roberts, sophomore Laray Smith.

Scouting report: Another big-time get for Coach Kevin Wilson on the recruiting trail, Mister brings a significant athletic upgrade to the running back position in this class. Indiana beat out several Big 10 schools and even Notre Dame for Mister, who loves the spread offense the Hoosiers employ. Mister is penciled in as a running back, but he can move around in the offense to be a threat in the slot as he is an athlete with big-play ability. With a 4.5 40-yard dash time, Mister is a fast runner out of the backfield and he hopes he can further lower that time before he gets to Bloomington. Tevin Coleman will still be the starter next fall for Indiana, but do not be surprised to see Mister get some carries right out of the gate.
