Local briefs: IPFW softball picked third in Summit League

The IPFW softball team has been picked to finish third in a poll of Summit League coaches.The Mastodons, the defending conference champions, earned 29 points and two first-place votes, just four points away from preseason favorite North Dakota State (33 points, four first-place votes). Omaha, which is not tournament eligible for 2013-14, was picked to finish second with 31 points and one first-place vote.

IPFW returns 14 of15 letter winners from its 34-16 team which earned the team's first berth into the NCAA Tournament.The 14th annual Kids Helping Kids Charity Basketball Invitational will be Feb. 8-9 at Spiece Fieldhouse.

More than 125 teams of third- through eighth-grade boys and girls will raise money to support the Mad Anthonys Children's Hope House. For information on participating, contact Andrew Gritzmaker of the Mad Anthonys Children's Hope House by emailing Andrew@childrenshopefw.org.The Bishop Dwenger wrestling team will hose the CYO Wrestling Camp on Feb. 24-27, March 3-5 and March 10-13. Boys in grades Pre-K through eighth grade are eligible. Cost is $25 and registration available at www.bishopdwenger.com.
