The Fort Wayne Police Department's Emergency Services Team was called out during a search for two armed robbery suspects.
Police responded at 1:15 p.m. Sunday to the report of an armed robbery to an individual in the 600 block of East Creighton Avenue. The victim said he was in his car when he was approached by two males both armed with handguns and robbed of his cash, according to Michael Joyner, polices spokesman. During the robbery the victim was pistol-whipped by one of the perpetrators. The victim said he at some point was able to speed away from his assailants and hit at least one of the two, knocking him to the ground, according to Joyner.
Witnesses to the incident told officers that one of the two individuals involved possibly ran to a house in the 600 block of East Creighton, so officers secured the perimeter of the home, which led to the decision to deploy its EST and Crisis Response Team. Once on scene the owner consented to police searching the home. EST members entered the home and found no one inside, according to Joyner.
This incident is being investigated by police and the Allen County prosecutor's office.
