DeKalb officers report finding marijuana-growing operation

At about 9 p.m. Monday, DeKalb County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to the 5100 block of County Road 39 in reference to a man who was suspected of a domestic battery that had occurred in Allen County, according to police.

Police talked with the suspect and noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from an outbuilding on the property, according to a news release. Deputies and an Auburn K-9 officer obtained a search warrant for the outbuilding and a vehicle at the residence.

Inside the outbuilding they found a large marijuana growing operation, according to the release. About 100 marijuana plants were found with an street value of about $100,000. An investigation is ongoing and charges are pending at this time. The DeKalb County Sheriff's Department was assisted by the Indiana State Police, Indiana State Police Eradication Team and the Auburn Police Department.
