Senior guard scores 12 off the bench

BLOOMINGTON – Evan Gordon has regained his offensive groove.

The fifth-year senior transfer, a scoring non-factor for nearly two months, came off the bench to score 12 points -- four more points than he'd totaled in the previous five games -- to help Indiana upset No 20 Iowa 93-86 Thursday night.

Gordon hadn't scored in double figures since he had 10 points at Illinois in late December.

Gordon was part of a bench that scored 45 points as the Hoosiers (16-12 overall, 6-9 in the Big Ten) were able to utilize their depth and transition game as they hadn't in Big Ten play. The Hawkeyes (19-9, 8-7) couldn't stay with them.

Here are some of Gordon's thoughts:

On the significance of the win, the third over a ranked team:

“It gives us confidence. Iowa is one of the best teams in the country. For us to get this win, that's a big building block that we can move forward on.”

On Will Sheehey's 30-point performance:

“It's not anything new that we're not used to. In practice he does the same thing. It's good he can take that out on the court and let it rip.”

On his banked-in three-pointer

“It was kind of a shot clock shot. I thought it was going straight down, but it hit the backboard and went in. I thought maybe, after that, I should stay aggressive. It worked out in the end.”
