Winter to return after tantalizing glimpse of spring

Tuesday, March 11, 2014 - 2:51 pm

Give today’s succulent hint of spring only a day, and it will become an arctic slap.

Although temperatures rose into the 50s Tuesday, the National Weather Service forecasts falling temperatures and rain overnight for Fort Wayne. After 4 a.m. Wednesday, the rain may be mixed with sleet. Sleet accumulation of around an inch is possible.

During the day Wednesday, snow may be mixed with sleet until 2 p.m., when it will become all snow. The weather service warns that the snow could become heavy at times, with additional snow and sleet accumulation of 2-4 inches possible.

Patchy blowing snow and a chance of additional snow are possible before 8 p.m. Wednesday. Low will be around 2 degrees.

Thursday’s forecast has this virtue: It is familiar, in that it will not rise above freezing. A high near 25 is predicted on a mostly sunny day, with a low around 21.

Friday and Saturday, highs in the 40s are forecast.
