Cardinals had some degree of success vs. Zips

Monday, March 17, 2014 12:01 am
Ball State had mixed success against Akron this season. The Cardinals nearly beat the Zips in Muncie before falling late 72-68, but were routed later in the season at Akron 73-46.First-year Cardinal coach James Whitford spoke with The News-Sentinel Sunday regarding what IPFW can expect from Akron when the two teams meet in the CIT Wednesday at the Gates Sports Center."We really rebounded well was a big thing (in the narrow defeat). Akron is a very big, strong and physical team. We like to refer to them as playing "power" ball.

"They love to throw the ball into the post and they are a terrific rebounding team. You have to be able to defend them in the post, and then you have to be able to handle them on the glass.""The third part to them is that they have some terrific 3-point shooters. So you have to be able to help on the post, but at the same time be able to recover out to the shooters.

"(In the narrow defeat) They didnt shoot the ball from 3 well and we really rebounded well."
