A man is in critical condition after being found in the Smoke House Tobacco Outlet store, 2217 S. Lafayette St., Monday morning. According to Michael Joyner, public information officer for the Fort Wayne Police Department, Fort Wayne Police responded to a man down at 9:30 a.m. after a patron had looked in the window, seen the man down and called it in.

The man was transported to a local hospital, where he was in critical condition. Joyner would not confirm early scanner traffic that had said the man was tied and had a wound to the head.

The business normally opens at 9 a.m., but when police arrived on the scene at 9:30 they had to force the front door open.

Neighborhood residents who frequent the smoke shop said the owner of the store is a very nice person who would never hurt anyone. Joyner said at this time they would not confirm the identity of the man. Because the man is in critical condition the case is being investigated as a homicide.
