The first step toward independence for an individual with a physical disability is the safe egress from their home. Turnstone helps ensure this independence by constructing ramps at the homes of people who find themselves literally trapped because of steps at the front door.Every year since 1989 more than 30 ramps have been built at the homes of people with physical disabilities by a dedicated group of volunteers from the community using material purchased through donations.

However, in 2013 the future of this vital service was made brighter through WOWO radio and its great team, because Turnstone’s ramp-building service was the recipient of the annual Penny Pitch drive.

Through your donations to Penny Pitch, more than $78,000 was raised to help build these ramps, thus ensuring safe egress from the homes of many people who use wheelchairs and walkers for mobility.

These ramps will enable them to enjoy their community, thanks to the team at WOWO radio and all their loyal and generous listeners who gave their pennies and dollars.

You made it possible for Turnstone to continue its residential ramp-building service for years to come. You are creating independence for others.
