Transportation assistance

Until Friday, those interested can go online to share their thoughts with the U.S. Department of Transportation on mobility and transportation assistive technology for people with disabilities. The ideas offered will help DOT identify products and apps that will enable transit riders with disabilities to plan, navigate, and use transportation in their communities.

Cancer training program

American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Research and Education Foundation's 2014 Oncology Patient Care Traineeship has selected Ashley Jacobs of Lutheran Hospital as a trainee. The 4-month educational experience trains pharmacists to develop and maintain specialized services for the management of patients with cancer.

5K run/walk scheduled

Run Like A Hero 5K Run/Walk will begin with registration at 7:30 a.m. June 21 at Summit Middle School, 4509 Homestead Road. The event will be dedicated to Caden Bowles and others who lost their battle waiting for organ transplants. The event is open to the public.

Touring art exhibit

VSA and Volkswagen Group of America are teaming up to showcase the work of emerging artists living with disabilities ages 16-25. Artists can enter by June 30 to compete to be included in a curated exhibition, formed around a unique theme to be displayed in Washington, D.C., and then toured around the nation.

Art submissions can include paintings and drawings, fine art prints, photography, computer-generated prints, digital art, and time-base media (video, film) and other types of visual art.

Fitness festival planned

Fort4Fitness Seventh Annual Fall Festival will be Sept. 26-27. The event will feature a Half Marathon, 10K, 4 Mile Run/Walk, Kids Marathon and Seniors Marathon. Registration is open. Register at www.Fort4Fitness.org.
