Senior SG looking to add scholarship offers

Monday, July 7, 2014 - 12:22 am

Chandler White does not need to be told what the next several weeks means to his basketball future, he already knows.

“This is a huge month for me,” said the Carroll senior who will play for Indiana Elite in some of the premier AAU tournaments of the year in July. “A lot of college coaches will be there. It's a chance for me to pick up some more offers.”

Entering the final big evaluation period of the summer, White sits on offers from Ball State, Indiana State, Northern Kentucky, UNC Wilmington and Boston College. With the 6-foot-2 shooting guard's final prep season looming, time is running out for White to pick up some more significant offers.

There will be no shortage of attention on Indiana Elite in the next few weeks. White and his teammates will compete at the Adidas Invitational this upcoming weekend in Indianapolis, then travel to AAU tournaments in Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

Some of the top coaches in the country will be in attendance, with White along with Indiana Elite's Hyron Edwards, Kyle Guy and Ryan Cline looking to impress.

White hopes to add some additional options for college this month.

“I want to focus on mainly just picking up another offer,” White said. “That and going out and having fun with teammates.”

White has visited Ball State and Northern Kentucky recently. Those two schools in addition to Western Michigan, Saint Louis, Indiana State and UNC Wilmington have been in contact the most the last few months.

The interest from Boston College has waned as of late.

White sat out a few games close to the end of the AAU circuit in May due to a knee injury, but he said he is 100 percent entering Saturday's event in Indianapolis. He suffered the injury in a game in May when his right kneecap popped out of place then back in again.

The damage was not extensive, with White doing his recovery at Spiece Fieldhouse with Gym Rats.

Other than the injury, White felt like he performed well in May with Indiana Elite. He has continued to hone his game and hopes to turn some more heads in the upcoming AAU events.

“I've been working on my outside shooting and dribbling,” White said.

White shares an Indiana State offer with Carroll junior Kyle Mallers, who picked up a scholarship from the Sycamores recently. Both are expected to lead an experienced Chargers team next season coming off a 15-9 campaign.
