Letter to the editor: Military solutions are the problem in Mideast

Tuesday, July 8, 2014 - 12:01 am

America and our allies have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bring stability to the Mideast. I am confident in our ability because we have already made most of the possible mistakes. We need only to learn from them.

The first lesson is to stop listening to the people who created this quagmire and start listening to the people who said military solutions are problems.

Our No. 1 industrial export (i.e., weapons) has brought only misery to the Mideast. More weapons and military training will only bring misery.

Our tax dollars would be better spent on humanitarian aid for the refugee crisis we have created.

Americans need to understand that the initiation of war with Iraq was not a mistake, it was intentional.

The destabilization of the Mideast could have been avoided if President George H.W. Bush would have told Saddam Hussein not to invade Kuwait.

President George W. Bush abused the trust of the American people with baseless allegations of WMDs

.

Their wars have created the Islamic state.
