Historic Fort Wayne reported the theft of a small cannon barrel from one of the Old Fort's blockhouses Tuesday morning. The cannon barrel was believed to have been stolen sometime Monday night, according to board president Norm Gable.

Gable could not estimate the cannon barrel's value, but said it would be very difficult to sell for scrap since it is made of cast iron and scrap dealers would be on the lookout for it.

The cannon could possibly be sold as is, but, again, he said it would be known throughout this area and could be identified.

Gable said nothing else was reported stolen. The cannon barrel weighed approximately 100-200 pounds.

The Old Fort is located at 1201 Spy Run Ave., and was in the news May 27 when a building that contained the woodworker's and blacksmith's shops and storage area caught fire.
