In light of the federal court’s recent action striking down Indiana’s ban on same-sex marriage, allow me to reiterate the position held by millions of Christians across every part of our nation.Marriage is between one man and one woman. Marriage was established by God as an institution and pre-dates civil law by millennia.

Everywhere in Scripture, the sexual relationship between a man and a woman is to be expressed within the bonds of marriage. And that marriage is between a man and a woman.

While all individuals, no matter their sexual orientation, are entitled to their civil rights under the law, we believe that this is a moral issue of choice. We strongly oppose legislation and/or court action at any level of government that would seek to redefine marriage in any way other than being between one man and one woman.

The federal government’s continued attempts at social engineering are not only beyond the scope of its responsibilities but will continue to deeply divide this nation, as it already has.

The government’s addiction to political correctness and its inability to have a civil conversation about issues like these cast an unfortunate shadow on our future.

As Christians, I hope you will join me in treating with respect those who will treat us with disrespect over this issue. Christian character and conduct expects no less of us.

I hope you will join me in praying for our nation.

We have just celebrated the 4th of July holiday, a day when we remember the men and women whose sacrifices have provided for us both the freedom of religion and the freedom of speech.

As we exercise our right to have our voices heard, we are humbly mindful of what this freedom has cost. May the conduct of our response honor God in every way.
