A Fort Wayne man was charged Thursday in Allen Superior Court, accused of being under the influence of the drug THC while driving a vehicle involved in a 2013 fatal crash.

Nikolas A. Williams, 22, of the 3300 block of New Haven Avenue, was charged with operating a vehicle with a controlled substance or its metabolite in his blood.

He allegedly was driving when the accident occurred at about 9:20 p.m. Aug. 13 on Dawkins Road east of Webster Road, east of New Haven, the Allen County Sheriff's Department said in an accident investigation form filed in the case. At the time, police reported Williams' vehicle left the road and crashed into a stand of trees.

His passenger, Kayla C. Yelton, 20, of Fort Wayne, died of blunt-force trauma, the Allen County coroner's office said.

Williams allegedly later tested positive for THC during analysis of a blood sample taken from him about four hours after the crash, the accident report said.
