Looking for a meter in downtown Fort Wayne and having a little trouble parking?
Republican at-large City Council member and deputy Fort Wayne police chief Marty Bender said that can be attributed to a few different causes.
One reason is the Three Rivers Festival events. Take for example the bed race, which closed meters on near Freimann Square for a few hours Wednesday.
Another cause of closed meters in downtown Fort Wayne is the new Ash Brokerage Emerald Skyline Project. While those will not be back in place for quite some time, Bender assures that after the Three Rivers Festival events most of downtown Fort Wayne parking meters will be available once again.
However, one thing to note for this weekend is street closings due to the fireworks Saturday at One Summit Square. The blocks surrounding the area will be blocked off to guests to ensure the safety of folks watching the fireworks due to the falling debris from the aftermath of the fireworks.
However, Bender wanted to share one tip - parking in the parking garages downtown is rarely taken advantage of - and bicycle police often patrol those areas to ensure guests safety.
The parking may be a little difficult until the end of the week but once Monday comes along parking in downtown should return to relatively normal.
