Letter to the editor: The pathetic GOP shuns blue collars for the rich snobs

Thursday, July 24, 2014 - 12:01 am

I have been a conservative since I was 21. I am now 67. I have also been a blue-collar worker for my entire working life. I was a firefighter and am a general building contractor.

The National Republican Party has been recoiling from major defeats wondering why. They are wondering where their voting base has gone. But they continue to shun and attack voting demographics. They have always been very actively and vocally anti pro-choice. They have always boisterously been homophobic. They have always been for immigration reform, which pits the Latino community against them.

They are anti-most poor programs, which gives the Democrats another huge voting block. They are openly and proudly against unions, which alienates millions of workers and their families. It also alienates the rest of the blue-collar workers because it is assumed that the Republican Party is full of nothing but a bunch of rich snobs who only care about other rich snobs.

Pretty easy to figure this stuff out. Alienate enough people and you’re out of a voting majority.

The Democrats are smarter. They only openly alienate rich snobs. They wait until they are elected and then quietly they shaft who they want. Nobody notices. This snobbish arrogance filters down through all of the levels of government, right down to the Grand Old Party in Fort Wayne.

Really? You ask. That’s right folks. Our own Republican City Council members picked up the “wanna be big boy Republican ball” and ran with it recently, stuffing many of our hard-working city union workers. Shame on them for that!

I am anxiously awaiting the next City Council election to see their arrogant backsides unseated. I will be glad to actively help along with hundreds of others.

Believe it or not, there are a lot more blue-collar workers in this town than there are rich snobs. It will be a cold day in “Hotsville” before I will vote for another City Council Republican in Fort Wayne. The Grand Old Party and the “monkey see, monkey do” Republicans on City Council in Fort Wayne are pathetic and politically dangerous.
