INDIANAPOLIS — Police say a man has died after he was hit by a sheriff's department prisoner transport van on an Indianapolis street.
City police spokesman Officer Christopher Wilburn says witnesses told investigators that the man was lying on the four-lane street on the city's south side when he was hit Thursday night by the Marion County Sheriff's Department vehicle. Wilburn says some possible belongings of the man were found alongside the street.
Wilburn says the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The deputy driving the van wasn't hurt and no other people were reported riding in the van.
Wilburn says investigators don't believe speeding or alcohol was involved in the crash.
