Grant awarded

The English, Bonter, Mitchell Foundation has awarded Allen County Education Partnership a $60,000 grant to support the agency's early literacy program, Project READS.

CANI Head Start accepting enrollments

Community Action of Northeast Indiana Head Start is accepting enrollments for the fall. CANI Head Start serves children ages 3 to 5, and their families in Allen, Noble, and Whitley counties. Download applications at, or call 420-2833 or 1-800-589-3506.

Grants awarded

Riley Children's Foundation, the fund raising organization supporting Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health, has granted monies to family-focused initiatives in Northeast Indiana: Kate's Kart, $3,000; Euell A. Wilson Center, $2,500; and Oak Hill Farm, $2,500. 

LSSI receives grant

Lutheran Social Services of Indiana received a $15,000 grant in support of its Financial Literacy Program from the English, Bonter, Mitchell Foundation. In the last year, LSSI provided more than 1,600 financial-literacy lessons. 

Community Harvest meal sites named

Community Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Indiana announced it is a sponsor of the Child and Adult Care Food Program which provides free and reduced-price meals at no separate charge to those who qualify. Meals are offered at these times at these sites: 4-5 p.m. Monday-Friday at Boys & Girls Club, 2609 Fairfield Ave.; 4:30-5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday at Brook Mill Boys & Girls Club, 2957 Millbrook Drive; 4-5 p.m. Monday-Friday at McCormick Boys & Girls Club, 3005 McCormick St.; 4-5 p.m. Monday-Friday at Fellowship Boys & Girls Club, 2536 E. Tillman Road; 4:30-5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday at McMillen Park Community Center, 3901 Abbott St.; 4-5 p.m. Monday-Friday at Weisser Park Youth Center, 802 Eckart St.; 5-6 p.m. Monday-Friday at Jennings Recreation Center, 1330 McCullock St.; 4-5 p.m. Monday-Friday at Jennings-Cooper Community Center, 2300 Clinton St.; and 4-5 p.m. Monday-Friday at Euell A. Wilson Center, 1512 Oxford St.

Golf outing raises funds

The third annual Busse-Fabini Cougar Classic, a University of Saint Francis golf outing, raised more than $75,000 for student-athlete scholarships.

Relay for Life nets funds

Noble County Relay for Life received $37,000 at this year's event. 

4-H club receives top honor

The Llama Lovers Critter Haven 4-H Club was recognized recently as the Outstanding 4-H Club for 2014 at the 4-H awards ceremony held during the Allen County Fair. They were selected from more than 30 different 4-H Clubs in Allen County.
