Rookie of the Year signs two-way deal with AHL team

The Fort Wayne Komets added some size to their forward lines on Monday, but they had to give up high-scoring Eric Faille to get it. Last season's team Rookie of the Year, Faille was traded to Orlando so he could sign a two-way contract with the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies and their ECHL farm team the Solar Bears.Faille scored 27 goals and 54 points in 45 games with Fort Wayne and registered two goals and six points in 21 games with Texas.

In return, the Komets acquired 6-foot-2, 217-pound Brock Montgomery from the Solar Bears who scored 13 goals and 37 points last year in 58 games with 73 penalty minutes. He scored nine goals and 24 points in 45 games a rookie two years ago with Idaho.

The Komets also announced that forward Mike Montagna has accepted an invitation to the Fort Wayne training camp. Montagna, 23 and a 5-11, 185-pound forward, played 28 games last season for Oswego-SUNY, scoring 14 goals and 30 points while being named all-conference third team.

The Komets have 18 players on their preseason roster, including one goaltender, six defensemen and 11 forwards. Training camp opens Oct. 3.
