Kroger has gas station switch
Spy Run to close, W. State to open.
of The News-Sentinel

The Kroger gas station on the corner of Spy Run Avenue and State Boulevard will close at 11 p.m. Wednesday and a new gas station will open the next morning at Scott's in West State Plaza.

Kroger Co.'s Indianapolis-based spokesman John Elliott confirmed the West State location is the first with the Scott's name in the city. It will be similar to the soon-to-be closed site. A kiosk will be open 6 a.m.-11 p.m. Ten pumps all have handicap-assistance call buttons. The pumps will be open 24 hours for credit card users. Diesel will be available.

Other merchandise, such as motor oil, fluids and wiper blades, will be offered, as well as bundled firewood, propane exchange, a soft-drink dispenser, and the typical tobacco and candy.

The first 500 people to fill up beginning at 8 a.m. Nov. 12 will receive a discount of 20 cents per gallon up to 25 gallons. Through the first two weeks, Scott's will double its 10-cent discount for loyalty card members who qualify.

Elliott said there are no plans to tear down the Spy Run Kroger gas station. The property also houses an empty building, formerly a Kroger grocery store. Elliott said there have been inquiries but no substantive negotiations about the building.

Cincinnati-based Kroger purchased Scott's stores in 2007 and is in the midst of a $75 million reorganization in Fort Wayne. Elliott said finalization of that restructuring should be known soon.
