The body of a missing Fort Wayne man was located Thursday about 1.6 miles from where he was last seen.

The clothing, facial features and general characteristics along with identification found in a wallet have led the Steuben County Sheriff's Office to believe they found the body of Stuart Stalcup, 48, who went missing near his parents' Snow Lake cottage in Fremont on Oct. 11, according to Detective Dale Murray.

An autopsy and further investigation to complete identification will be conducted this morning.

A Silver Alert was issued after Stalcup's disappearance about three weeks ago, and canceled at 12:15 p.m. Thursday, according to Indiana State Police.

Stalcup recently had a stroke and was an insulin-dependent diabetic. Murray said the body had no suggestions of foul play, leading the detective to speculate he may have died from diabetes.

Silver Alerts are issued for adults incapable of returning to their residence without assistance due to a mental illness, dementia, or other physical or mental incapacity; who are in danger from a threat of violence; or who have disappeared under dangerous circumstances.
