Radio host Kresta to speak Monday

Al Kresta, who organized the Ave Maria Radio network, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Monday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 4525 Arlington Ave. The topic will be “Four Clubs with which to beat The Church, and Four Questions to Ask the Club Bearers.” The public is welcome; admission is free.

Kresta is host of the nationally syndicated radio program “Kresta in the Afternoon,” which airs 4-6 p.m. weekdays on Redeemer Radio, 1450-AM, in Fort Wayne. He will broadcast his program live Monday from Redeemer Radio's studios.

Redeemer Radio also reported receiving pledges of $146,539 during its Fall 2009 “Hands That Serve” Sharathon held Oct. 21-23. The donations will support station operation.

Alzheimer's seminar Thursday

Bethlehem Woods Nursing & Rehabilitation will offer a free public seminar, “Taking Care of Dad Without Killing Your Brother,” 6-7 p.m. Thursday at the center, 4430 Elsdale Drive. The event is being held in November since it is Alzheimer's Awareness Month.

Karen Cookson, outreach coordinator from Lutheran Hospital Generations program, will discuss family relationships and role reversals when a family member has dementia or Alzheimer's disease.

Philharmonic gives scholarships

The Fort Wayne Philharmonic Musician's Professional Scholarship Fund has awarded these scholarships for the 2009-2010 season: violin, Rebecca Benjamin, Jacob Mossburg, Phoebe McCulfor, Malcom Grayson, Rachel Davenport, Rachel Mossburg and Marcella Duncan; cello, Brian Klickman; bassoon, Andrew Favorito; flute, Emilie Berghoff; and viola, Emily O'Daniel. Each student will receive 10 lessons from a philharmonic musician.

Embassy awards, board members

The Embassy Theatre Foundation honored these individuals at the organization's annual meeting:

♦Volunteer of the Year: Alice Sheak

♦Dale R. McNeal Award: Matt Kelley

In addition, these people will serve on the board of directors:

Parks department reaccredited

The Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department has been reaccredited by the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies. Parks and Recreation is one of only 88 parks and recreation agencies in the country to hold national accreditation.
