Director of city's public relations resigns after three months on the job
of The News-Sentinel

After only three months on the job, Vince Robinson resigned Monday as the city’s public information director. His resignation comes weeks after protective orders were filed by both him and his girlfriend alleging violence between the two.

In an Oct. 20 filing, Robinson alleges his girlfriend Kimberly A. Wiley made verbal threats of violence against him, then reportedly hit Robinson with closed fists and a curtain rod. Robinson notes in the order that Wiley may have access to a gun.

This came less than a week after Wiley filed a similar protective order against Robinson, saying Robinson attacked her at her home Oct. 13. Fort Wayne Police were called to Wiley’s Bayview Drive address for the incident.

A statement from Mayor Tom Henry’s office did not give a reason for the resignation, and a message left for Robinson at his business was not returned. The statement did say that his resignation was accepted and that “The mayor thanks him for his service and wishes him well in the future.”

Fort Wayne Police Department Public Information Officer Michael Joyner has been appointed interim director of public information.

Robinson was named to the director position Aug. 17 by Mayor Henry. Robinson held the same job under former Mayor Graham Richard in 2000 and 2001.

Robinson became owner of Diversity Media Group and editor of INK newspaper, a weekly publication with a circulation of 9,500, following his previous work with the city.
