The Northrop High School Big Orange Pride marching band placed 40th out of 91 bands at the Bands of America Grand National Championships last Thursday through Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
Bands from Indiana and other Great Lakes states competed along with bands from Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Oklahoma and New Jersey.
Northrop, which scored 76.6 points, was the only northeast Indiana band in the competition. Avon High School, located just west of Indianapolis, won the overall national championship for the second consecutive year.
Bands competed in preliminary judging Thursday and Friday. The top 34 bands advanced to the semifinals Saturday. Twelve finalists competed for the national championship Saturday night.
