The city woman critically injured after a two-vehicle crash early Saturday at Lewis Street and Anthony Boulevard has been identified. Capreice Brown, 38, has been upgraded to serious condition at a local hospital, according to police spokesman Michael Joyner.
Fort Wayne Police were told that two vehicles, a Cadillac and a Ford SUV, were possibly chasing each other when the crash occurred around 4:25 a.m. Brown was reportedly a passenger in one of the vehicles and was unconscious when police arrived.
Officials with the Whitley County Sheriff's Department say they have yet to recover the body of 49-year-old Columbia City resident Debra Houser, who is presumed dead, allegedly murdered by her ex-husband, 43-year-old Rodney Houser. The department said today it will not resume a search for the woman.
Prosecutors charged Rodney Houser with murder last week, using evidence of bloodstains in Debra Houser's abandoned Dodge Durango, her blood-soaked clothing in a Waynedale trash bin, and the Wednesday account of a man who said Rodney Houser asked for his help to bury Debra Houser's corpse.
The Wayne Trace reconstruction project is complete. The project widened the street by adding a turn lane, storm drains, gutters, curbs and 58 trees. It is a key road to Fort Wayne's first industrial park and a major east-side street that now allows better traffic flow from north to south, according to a statement from the city. A ribbon- cutting was scheduled for this afternoon.
