Stuff-a-Bus hopes to break record
Radio station's goal: donations of more than 9 tons of food.
of The News-Sentinel

For the 14th year in a row, WLDE-FM 101.7 is holding its Stuff-a-Bus Radiothon. The station will broadcast live from Georgetown Square in a Star of America Luxury Bus until Wednesday evening. Residents are asked to open their pantries and donate canned goods and nonperishable food items.

“It doesn't matter if you give one can or a dozen, all donations are welcome,” said Program Director Chris Didier.

Last year the station collected 9 tons of food for the Associated Churches Food Bank of Fort Wayne and Allen County, and this year it hopes to break that record.

Late Monday afternoon, the bus was only 1/16 full. Didier said the first day is always slow, but donations pick up as it gets closer to Wednesday evening.

Didier said over the past 14 years, the station has collected 144,000 pounds of food. Event sponsors are Centennial Wireless, Focus Cleaning, Glenbrook Hyundai Service Department, Fort Wayne Financial Services and Knipscheer Collision Center.

Items may be dropped off 5:30 a.m.-10 p.m. today and 5:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Wednesday.
