PIERRE, S.D. — A Hanson County grand jury on Tuesday indicted 20-year-old Alexander Salgado of Fort Wayne in the Nov. 10 death of 16-year-old Jasmine Guevara of Mitchell, whose body was found in a burned vehicle in a rural area near Mitchell.

Attorney General Marty Jackley and Hanson County State's Attorney James Davies say Salgado was indicted on one count of first-degree murder, one count of felony murder and one count of first-degree arson.

The state Division of Criminal Investigation, Davies' office and the Mitchell Police Department are conducting the investigation, while Davies and the attorney general's office are prosecuting the case.

A 15-year-old girl also has been implicated in the case and has had a juvenile court hearing. Authorities have said the girl and Salgado moved to Mitchell from Fort Wayne about a month ago.

Court documents say the motive for the killing is believed to be the girl's jealousy over a developing relationship between Salgado and Guevara.
