USF men victorious
Saint Francis broke open a close game in the second half to defeat East-West University 67-53 in the St. Xavier Midwest Tournament on Tuesday in Chicago.
The Cougars led 21-20 at halftime but outscored East-West 46-33 in the second half.
Qadr Owens led Saint Francis with 17 points while DeJovaun Sawyer-Davis had 15 points and 11 rebounds. It was Sawyer-Davis’ fifth double double of the season.
Matt Edmonds added 10 points for Saint Francis, which lost 96-83 to St. Francis, Ill., in the first round of the tournament.
Saint Francis plays Mt. Marty at 3 p.m. today in the fifth-place game.
Zuppe fuels IPFW women’s win
Jordan Zuppe scored a season-high 23 points to lead IPFW to a 78-62 win over Longwood in women’s college basketball action Tuesday in Farmville, Va.
Zuppe’s point total included a nine-for-10 performance from the free-throw line.
IPFW led wire-to-wire as it scored the first seven points of the game.
Also scoring in double figures for the Mastodons were Anne Boese with 19 and Sydney Weinert 12.
IPFW is 7-4, the best start in the 10 years of being a full NCAA Division I member.
