Chase Bank on Lower Huntington Road robbed again

Thursday, December 6, 2012 - 9:30 pm

Fort Wayne Police are searching for a suspect after the Chase Bank on Lower Huntington Road reported a robbery late Thursday morning.

According to Raquel Foster, spokeswoman for the FWPD, the man who allegedly robbed the bank presented the teller with a note at around 11:30 a.m. that asked for money but he did not display a weapon. He then fled the bank headed eastbound with an undisclosed amount of money in a small bag along with the note. A Fort Wayne Police canine unit was unable to locate the robber.

Meanwhile, St. Therese Catholic School was put on lock-down, according to scanner traffic.

The bank reported a robbery Oct. 26. In that case, employees said they arrived to work at around 8 a.m. and were approached by two males who were dressed in dark hooded sweat shirts while wearing black masks over their faces who forced them inside the bank. Both robbers had handguns. They demanded cash before leaving in an unknown direction, according to a police report.

Foster said the city has had 14 bank robberies in the past year. Police suspect because most of the robberies are similar – approaching an employee who is forced to enter the bank – that they have been robbed by the same people. Foster said because today's robbery was nothing like the others, it is unlikely related to any others.

Foster said police hope to have surveillance footage of the robber later Thursday.
