Senior receiver has brought reliability to Irish program

Tuesday, January 1, 2013 - 6:18 am

Each day leading up to the BCS National Championship game, The News-Sentinel will profile a different member of the Notre Dame football squad.

WHO: John Goodman

WHAT: No. 81 senior wide receiver

WHERE: Bishop Dwenger High School

2012 STATS: 7 receptions this year for 159 yards and 3 touchdowns.

INFO: Hard-working, great teammate that returned for fifth season to lend leadership in locker room and on field. Every successful team needs a John Goodman.

KELLY SAYS: “He really hasn’t been healthy all year. He’s battled a number of different ailments. When we ask him to go in there, he’s the center of some big plays, obviously Michigan State, and then of course Boston College. John has given us everything he has in his senior year. He’s been a great teammate. I know that sometimes people are measured and I know I’m measured by wins and losses, but the relationships that he has on this team strengthens that group. I think he’ll look back and say, ‘Yeah, I would like to have caught more and made more touchdowns and done all those things,’ but he’s going to look back on the relationships and the strength that he’s provided as a senior in this football program.”
