MUNCIE — Prosecutors say a Muncie man convicted last month in the murder of a woman whose body was set on fire stole a cellphone during his trial.
Twenty-five-year-old Terry Rutledge faces a theft charge alleging he stole the phone Nov. 29 from a counter at the Delaware County Jail during a break in his trial in the slaying of Tonia Ingram. The Star Press reports the phone was allegedly found in Rutledge's cell.
Rutledge was convicted Dec. 4 of murder and obstruction of justice in Ingram's December 2011 asphyxiation death.
He faces up to 68 years in prison when he's sentenced Jan. 14 in her killing. Rutledge faced the obstruction of justice charge for allegedly setting fire to Ingram's body to destroy evidence in the case.
