Coroner identifies teen shot and killed in Fort Wayne on Wednesday

Thursday, April 4, 2013 - 3:08 pm

The Allen County Coroner's Office has released the identity of a Fort Wayne teen shot and killed Wednesday afternoon in the 900 block of Hugh Street.

Elijah O. Freeman, 17, is the 15th homicide victim in Allen County this year. His death was ruled a homicide, with a gunshot or gunshots as the cause of death, after an autopsy Thursday afternoon.

Fort Wayne Police continue searching for two suspects in Freeman's shooting.

Several calls were received about shots being fired in the area, along with a call about a person being shot. Fort Wayne Police Chief Rusty York said Wednesday that witnesses reported the boy was chased by two suspects into the yard, then multiple shots were fired.

According to a release from the Fort Wayne Police Department, witnesses reported seeing multiple people fleeing the area. A canine unit assisted in the investigation and attempted a track, which ended nearby.

The killing is still being investigated by Fort Wayne Police, the Allen County Coroner's Office and the Allen County Prosecutor's Office.
