Players generating plenty of buzz at adidas Invitational

Sunday, July 14, 2013 - 12:01 am

INDIANAPOLIS -- It’s good to be Jalen Coleman and Hyron Edwards these days. Both are highly regarded guards in the Class of 2015. Both play for the powerhouse Indiana Elite 2015 squad. And both have received scholarship offers from some of America’s best programs.

Oh, yes. Both are generating plenty of recruiting buzz at this week’s adidas Invitational in Indianapolis.

The 6-3 Coleman, who has transferred from Indianapolis Cathedral to La Lumiere in northwestern Indiana, has offers from Purdue, Indiana, Notre Dame, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio State, Arizona, Cincinnati and more. He’s ranked No. 30 nationally by Rivals.com, a national Internet recruiting service.

The 5-10 Edwards is ranked No. 91 by Rivals. IU, Purdue and Illinois have offered him. He’s from East Chicago, the same northwestern Indiana city that produces a pair of Boiler standouts in E’Twaun Moore in basketball and Kawan Short in football.

Purdue coach Matt Painter was the first coach to offer Edwards, who has drawn comparisons to former McDonald’s All-America Yogi Ferrell, now preparing for his sophomore season at Indiana.

Painter got a good view of Coleman and Edwards on Saturday, as did IU coach Tom Crean.
