Hillsdale College is other exhibition

BLOOMINGTON – Indiana did not schedule the University of Southern Indiana to find basketball perfection, although that's likely the end result.

Coach Tom Crean lined up USI, a perennial NCAA Division II power out of the Great Lakes Valley Conference, to get his youthful Hoosiers a feel for what major college ball is all about.

IU will play USI on Oct. 26 in the first of two exhibition games. The other is against Hillsdale College out of Michigan set for Nov. 4. USI was 23-8 last year. Hillsdale was 17-10.

The Hoosiers are 14-0 in exhibition games against non-Division I teams.

“I think the more you can involve institutions from the area during the exhibition season, the stronger it makes both programs,” Crean said in a university release. “Our goal in scheduling exhibition games is to find programs that will be prepare us for the upcoming season. Both of these teams will do that.”

Indiana will open its season against Chicago State on Nov. 8.

The Hoosiers return two key players -- point guard Yogi Ferrell and swing man Will Sheehey -- from a team that won the Big Ten championship and earned a NCAA tourney No. 1 seed. They bring in seven newcomers – senior Evan Gordon and freshmen Troy Williams, Devin Davis, Collin Hartman, Noah Vonleh, Stanford Robinson and Luke Fischer.
