Boiler class now ranks No. 57 nationally

Wednesday, December 18, 2013 - 12:01 am

Suddenly Purdue is a football recruiting juggernaut.

In number of recent commitments, at least.

The Boilers are up to 18 commitments for the Class of 2014. Seven came as a result of the Dec.6-8 recruiting weekend.

That bumps them two spots nationally, to No. 57, according to Rivals.com, a national Internet recruiting service.

Purdue got three commitments Tuesday with Georgia running back Dexter Knox, Los Angeles defensive back LaDarius Wiley and Florida cornerback Chris Jones.

Jones is a three-star prospect according to Rivals.com. He had been committed to South Florida before reopening his recruitment.

Wiley is also a three-star prospect. He picked Purdue over Fresno State, Nevada and Northwestern.

Knox is not rated.

Purdue now has six defensive backs in the class. The others are Tim Cason, Brandon Roberts, Simmie Cobbs and Juan Jenkins.

Also, GoldandBlack.com, a Purdue sports publication, reported that Cason will join quarterback David Blough and offensive lineman Kirk Barron in enrolling at Purdue for the spring semester. They will be able to participate in winter workouts and spring practice, preparation that could help them make an impact next season.
