Firearm found near body of 18-year-old

Autopsy set for today on man found in grassy area near intersection.

An 18-year-old man was found dead near the intersection of Smith and Emily Street early today.

According to a report from the Fort Wayne Police Department, the FWPD responded at approximately 2:02 a.m. to the area of Smith Street and Emily Street on a report of an unresponsive person found lying in the grassy area near this intersection. The victim, an adult male, was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics.

According to Raquel Foster of the Fort Wayne Police Department, a firearm was found near the body. It has yet to be determined who the gun belongs to. According to the Allen County Coroner's Office, the autopsy on the man will be conducted sometime today.

The exact cause and manner of death will be determined at that time, and the identity of the victim will be released pending family notification.

The incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.
