The Allen County Sheriff's Department is not a telephone bill-collection agency.

The department announced Tuesday that the sheriff's department and Fort Wayne Police Department have received several phone calls in the past few days regarding a phone scam. Residents say they are being contacted by telephone and informed that they owe a debt. The scammers say they are with the Allen County Sheriff's Department. The victims are then being informed if they do not send money a warrant will be issued for their arrest. The scammers warn the targets they call that a sheriff or a federal agent will come to their homes to arrest them.

The sheriff's department emphasized that anyone who receives a call similar to this scenario should not send any money to the caller.
