MOUNT VERNON — Visitors are giving high marks to a southwestern Indiana city's new riverfront development.
More than 100 people attended grand opening events Thursday for the Mount Vernon development that includes a 56-unit residential building overlooking the Ohio River.
That building includes apartments for senior citizens, six luxury condominiums and nearly 8,000 square feet of retail space. The $9 million project also has an amphitheater with a fountain and park, giving a new look to the area that had been dominated by grain silos since the 1950s.
The Evansville Courier & Press reports Mayor John Tucker told the crowd that the project has been the city's most exciting in decades.
