Morgan elects to leave Bulldog program

Monday, March 17, 2014 04:31 pm
For the third time this basketball season, Butler has had its perimeter depth depleted by a transferring player. The latest Bulldog choosing to bolt the program is sophomore Devontae Morgan, who announced Monday that he was leaving.“We appreciate the effort and hard work that Devonate has put forth over the past two years," first-year Butler coach Brandon Miller said in a release. "We wish him well in the future."

Morgan played in just 32 games throughout his two-year career and averaged less than two points per game during his time with the Bulldogs.

The 6-foot-3 sophomore from Tampa joins freshman Rene Castro and junior Andrew Smeathers, who left the team in February and November, respectively.

Miller now has three scholarships available and recently told The News-Sentinel that bolstering the Bulldog backcourt was a priority this spring.

"With Jackson (Aldridge) and Alex (Barlow) both being seniors (in 2014-15), we are looking to fill that role," Miller said.
