BLOOMINGTON – Cody Zeller is a man of his word.

He said he would finish what he started, and he’s about to do exactly that.

Did you doubt that?

Zeller will graduate from Indiana this weekend, and if it took a couple of years longer than it might have, well, he isn’t complaining.

The former basketball and academic All-American is, of course, a multi-millionaire courtesy of the NBA and the Charlotte Hornets.

Specifically, Zeller has earned a bachelor’s degree in management from the Kelley School of Business.

He left IU after his sophomore season to enter the NBA draft and was picked No. 4 in 2013. He’s spent the last four years finishing up the 35 credits he needed to graduate. He enrolled in on-line courses, taking one class per semester. That was all he had time for given the demands of being an NBA player.

In case you’re wondering, Zeller is 24 years old and makes $5.3 million a year. He’s improved his numbers each season. This past season he set career highs for scoring (10.3), rebounding (6.5) and shooting (57.1 percent) despite injuries that cost him 20 games.

Also in case you’re wondering, Zeller has attempted 13 three-pointers in the NBA. He’s made two.

He’s emerged as a starter and one of the league’s better centers with a bright future.
