For the 56th time in their 65-year history, the Fort Wayne Komets have qualified for the playoffs.
Saturday night's 3-2 shootout win over Indy coupled with Tulsa's 7-2 loss on Sunday at Missouri clinched a postseason spot for the Komets for the fourth consecutive season and for the 24th time in their 27 years under the ownership of the Franke brothers. It's the fourth time they have qualified in four seasons under coach Gary Graham.
The Komets are 36-16-7, good for second place in the ECHL's Central Division, 10 points behind first-place Toledo, 10 points ahead of third-place Quad City and 13 points ahead of fourth-place Kalamazoo. With 13 games remaining in the schedule, if the postseason started today the Komets would face Quad City in the best-of-seven first round. The playoffs the second week of April.
The Komets are 6-1-0 over their last seven games and 14-3-3 over their last 20. They are off until Friday when they host Tulsa.
