Soul music legend Aretha Franklin has agreed to perform at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 12 at Foellinger Outdoor Theatre in Franke Park, concert promoter Pacific Coast Concerts and the Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department said. The parks department also confirmed the band Blue Oyster Cult will play in concert at 7:30 p.m. July 7 at Foellinger Theatre. The band will be joined by guest Mark Farner, the former lead singer and guitarist of Grand Funk Railroad.

Tickets for both concerts go on sale at 8 a.m. March 24, but prices weren’t available Tuesday morning.

You can buy tickets through the parks department at www.foellingertheatre.org; 427-6000 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays; or by stopping by the parks office, 705 E. State Blvd., during those hours.

Tickets also are available at Wood Nickel Records stores in Fort Wayne and Karma Records stores in Warsaw and Plymouth.

During her long career, Franklin, 74, has sung soul, jazz, blues, rock, pop and gospel music. The “Queen of Soul” announced last month she plans to retire and said this year will be her last for performing in concert.

Rock band Blue Oyster Cult had hits in the mid-1970s and early 1980s, including “Burnin’ for You” and “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper.”
